New Zealand is one of the few countries in the world who list sign language as one of its official languages in addition to English and Maori.

Deaf Aotearoa has challenged government leaders to learn and release a brief message using sign language to show their support.

The Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has answered this challenge with a brief video making her the first leader to do so.
